Do you have what it takes to be an Ironworker? Can you answer “YES” to all of the following?
BEING AN IRONWORKER MEANS:
Having a good work ethic
Possessing a positive attitude
Listens and learns on the job and in the classroom
Can work with others as a team to complete the project or task
Follows the directions of the foreman/journeyman regardless of the manner in which they are given
Aptitude and desire for the trade/career
Has some experience doing construction, metal work, or comparable work with transferable skills
You have proven to be a good worker with good work history and attendance record and can indicate this even if not related to the trade
The necessary physical condition to work at heights in a physically demanding environment for extended periods of time in all weather conditions as safety allows
Drug-free and can pass required drug test annually as required of all members
If you answered “yes” to all of these points then YOU have the potential to be a member of one of the greatest trades, the IRONWORKERS!
NEXT STEPS FOR APPLYING TO THE LOCAL 498 APPRENTICE PROGRAM
We accept applications year-round.
We will notify you of the date (Saturday), time, and location of the agility and aptitude test semi-regularly (generally quarterly).
If you make the cut on the agility and aptitude test you will be notified of the interview date, time, and location. This will be done with the Joint Apprentice Training Committee (JATC) which is made up of people you will work with (Labor) and people you will work for (Management).
You will then be placed on an eligibility list based on your cumulative score and receive a letter.
